Arbie Dean Montgomery

Arbie Dean Montgomery, 87 of West Terre Haute, passed away at 11:39 PM on Saturday, February 23, 2019 in his residence.  He was born in Terre Haute on August15, 1931 to Harry E. Mary May Hedden Montgomery. He married the love of his life, Barbara Ann Humphrey on February 19, 1952.

Arbie is survived by his three children; Melissa “Dink” Tucker (Frank Mazely), Bud Montgomery (Charless), and Roger W. Montgomery (Shelly).  Also surviving is his sister, Darla Evinger and 6 grandchildren; Stephanie Tucker-Brewer, Jayce Montgomery (Lisa), Candie Montgomery-Allen (Jeremy Cuffle), Tera Montgomery (Ken Milner), Tad Montgomery, and Dustin Montgomery.  He also leaves behind great grandchildren; Cogan Montgomery, Trinity Brewer, Kaine Allen, Allie Jo Heyen, Wyatt Brewer, Thomas Heyen, and Rook Cuffle, as well as his companion, Linda “Lou” Jackson, and several nieces and nephews.

Arbie was preceded in death by his wife Barbara on February 15, 2000.  Also preceding him in death was his grandson, Brent Montgomery, his brother, Dane Montgomery, best buddy Max Miller, and honorary brother, Marty Martinez.

Arbie was a lift truck operator at Stran Steel and a commercial fisherman.  He was a member of the West Terre Haute Young Men’s Club and the Indiana State Trap Shooting Team for several years.  He loved to hunt, fish, and mushroom hunt.  Arbie never met a stranger, and had a strong influence in the local political community, and believed everyone should exercise their right to vote.  Most importantly, his family was his pride and joy, especially his grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd St., West Terre Haute, on Friday, March 1, 2019 at 12 Noon, with Pastor Chris Wilbur officiating.  Visitation is scheduled for Thursday February 28, 2019 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at the funeral home.  In keeping with his wishes, cremation will follow funeral services.
