Betty Florence Alcorn

Betty Florence Alcorn, 86, of West Terre Haute passed away at 10:02 a.m. Friday May 5, 2017 in Union Hospital at Terre Haute. She retired from Indiana State University after twenty nine years of service where she worked in Current Periodicals department in the student library. She had previously been employed with the Vigo County Parks Department where she worked as a naturalist mainly at Dobb's Park Nature Preserve and also at Fowler Park as well as other parks in the county. She was born September 9, 1930 in Terre Haute to Paul Alcorn and Frances Eppert Alcorn Farmer. Survivors include: three sisters Linda L. Kellams (John) and Janice McConkey all of West Terre Haute, and Judy Farmer of Portland, OR; nieces and nephews John W. Kellams (Cheryl), Tammy Kellams, David Kellams, and Curtis Kellams (Jennifer); many great nieces, great nephews, and great great nephews. She was preceded in death by her father; her mother and step father Frances Farmer and Wesley S. Farmer Sr.; a sister Joan Lively; two brothers James Farmer and Wesley S. Farmer Jr.; and her best friend Jean Hill. Betty was a graduate of Fayette High School Class of 1948 and later a graduate of Indiana State University Class of 1973 having earned a Masters Degree. She loved the outdoors and nature. She loved hiking and sightseeing and had traveled extensively around the U.S. to do so. She loved her dogs and cats and all animals. She enjoyed watching jeopardy and was quick to answer most questions and she enjoyed older country music. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday May 11 in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home with Pastor Andrew Black officiating. Burial will be in Pleasantview Cemetery. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. until service time Thursday. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Terre Haute Humane Society with envelopes available in the funeral home.
