Betty Rose Rowley Couch Phipps Torpy, 92 of West Terre Haute, passed away on Thursday, November 18, 2021 in Providence Health Care. She was born in Vigo County on March 6, 1929 to Dora Stultz and Ethel Rowley Stultz.
Betty and her husband Woody were owners of B & J Transportation and was a life member of VFW Post # 6574 Ladies Auxiliary and American Legion Post # 501 Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and crocheting, and was famous for her homemade noodles.
Betty is survived by six children; Bob Couch (Carol), Gary Couch (Deb), Fay Sharp (Frank), Herb Phipps, Connie Padgett (Elvis), and Debbie Lowe (Phil), and a sister, Pat Anderson. She is also survived by two step-daughters; Bernice Walker and Deborah McGill, as well as several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by six children; Larry Rowley, Brenda Wycoff, Virginia Ivey, Bill Phipps, Donnie Couch, and Nancy Couch, as well as husbands Don Couch, Herbert Phipps, and John “Woody” Torpy, Sr. Also preceding her in death were two step-sons, John Torpy, Jr. and Jimmy Torpy, and three siblings; Myrtle Hammond, Margaret Davis, and Jerry Aguirre.
Funeral services will be held at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd St., West Terre Haute, IN on Monday, November 22, 2021 at 1:00 PM, with her great grandson, Garrett Padgett officiating. Burial will follow in New Providence Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Monday from 11:00 AM until time of service.
