Charles A. Fortner

Charles A. Fortner, 94 of Brazil, IN, passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2022 in St. Vincent Clay Hospital in Brazil.  He was born in Terre Haute on January 6, 1928 to Herman Fortner and Louise Oberly Fortner.

Charles was a 1945 graduate of Wiley High School and then entered the U.S. Army in 1946, and worked as a machinist at Anaconda.

Charles is survived by two sons, Brad Fortner and Steve Fortner, as well as a daughter-in-law, Dawna Fortner.  He is also survived by his grandchildren; Robin Maurer (Rusty), Brent Fortner, and Melissa Kanizer (Eddie), as well as his great grandchildren; Jada Maurer, Jasmyn Maurer, Blake Fortner, Cortney Fortner, and Payne Fortner (Ashlan), and several great great grandchildren, and special friend Beverly.  He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Charles L. “Chuck” Fortner and Brent A. Fortner, two brothers, George B. Fortner and Herman Fortner, three sisters, Maxine Fortner, Ethel Fortner, and Betty Fortner, daughter in-law Cathy Fortner, and two grandchildren, Marti Fortner and Chuckie Fortner.

Private graveside services will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park on Monday, October 17, 2022, with Military honors provided by the Vigo County Honor Guard.  Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Fitzpatrick Funeral Home.
