Charles Walker Altvater, Sr., 91 of Terre Haute, passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 in his residence. He was born in Terre Haute on April 29, 1931 to Carl Altvater and Doris Miller Altvater.
Charles was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean War, and was a butcher with Valentine Meat Company. His memberships include Immanuel Lutheran Church, life member of V.F.W. Post # 972, and Wayne Newton American Legion Post # 346.
Charles is survived by his children; Charles W. Altvater, Jr., Timothy J. Altvater (Terrie), Tony L. Altvater, Sr. (Margaret), and Vickie Sue Hall, as well as his grandchildren; Jerry Phillips (Becky), William Hanna, Timothy Altvater, Jr., Andrew Altvater (Kristi), Tony Altvater, Jr., Levi Altvater, Kimmie Dycus (Chad), and Tonya Frost, as well as several great grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Carl S. Altvater (Becky). He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Deloris Morris Altvater, who passed away on September 2, 2005, a brother, Robert Altvater, and two sisters, Claire Snuffer, and Betty Gardner.
Funeral services will be held at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd St., West Terre Haute, IN on Monday, August 29, 2022 at 1:00 PM, with Rev. Philip Meyer officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Monday from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Dementia Society of America or the American Diabetes Association, in his memory.
