Clarence Edward Byrd

Clarence Edward Byrd often known as Ed or Birdie of West Terre Haute, IN passed away peacefully in his home Saturday May 14th at 4:24 p.m. at the age of 92, surrounded by his family. Clarence was born in Liberty, KY on July 31st 1923 to Asbury and Edna Byrd. In his younger years, he moved to Indiana and worked for Donnelly Farms, Dick Hayes gas station and at a Terre Haute Cannery factory. He found his passion for auto body work while working for Boots Moore Auto Sales, then Johnny Moore Auto Sales. He retired from Adams Pontiac in 1978. He was fondly known by many as "Terre Haute's Best Auto Body Man". After retirement he owned and operated Byrds body shop in West Terre Haute on Paris Avenue. Clarence is preceded in death by his wife of fifty nine years Mary (Allsup) Byrd, known as Lizzy, his mother and father, his five sisters Maxine Baxter, Madalyn Elliot, Anne Mullenix, Evelyn Porter and a baby girl at birth. He is survived by one sister-in-law Noma Allsup, his three children, Gary Byrd and wife Linda, Donna Selvia and husband Garry, and Judy Teran and husband Carlos; seven grandchildren Stephanie Selvia, Justin Byrd, Garry Jo Selvia (Brittney), Jordan Byrd (Tiffany), Virginia Byrd, Carly Smith (Scott) and Andres Teran and eleven great grandchildren. Clarence was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home with Rev. Kyle Andrews officiating. Burial will be in Highland Lawn Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Vigo County Veterans Honorguard. Visitation will be 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and prior to service time Thursday.
