David Pierce Ridenour, son, brother, husband, father, friend and mentor, passed away on Wednesday, March 15th. He was 78 years old. He was born to Howard Felton Ridenour and Mary Marceline Bell Ridenour on February 7th, 1939 in Terre Haute, Indiana.
David is survived by his mother, Marceline Ridenour, his brother Gene Ridenour, sister Marcia Ridenour Scamihorn, brother Tom Ridenour and brother Louis Watkins.
David was married to JoAnn Wolfe on June 17th, 1962. He is survived by his beautiful wife and five children: son David Eugene Ridenour (wife Autumn Ridenour and son Travis David Ridenour); daughter Lisa Joanne Ridenour White (daughters Giselle Elliese White and Jasmine Nichole White); daughter Sara Elizabeth Ridenour (husband Robert Lawrence and sons Ian David Lawrence, Pierce Michael Lawrence, Jude Wolfe Lawrence); daughter Valerie Jane Ridenour Deitrich (husband Kirk Deitrich, sons Benjamin David Deitrich, Jakob Nathaniel Deitrich, Zachary Grant Deitrich); son John Michael Ridenour (wife Bridget Ridenour and daughter Mia Dorothy Ridenour).
Education David received a Bachelor of Science in 1967 and a Master of Arts in 1971, both from Indiana State University.
Career David began his career at Indiana State University in 1967 as a Research Associate. In 1968 he served as Assistant to the Dean, Student Administrative Services, and in 1973 as Associate Registrar. In 1975, Director of Registration was added to his title, and in 1985, he became Registrar. Other positions held at Indiana State include Acting Dean and Director of Student Financial Aid. David taught several classes during his career. In 2000, he was awarded the Presidential Medallion for Exceptional Service and Dedication to Indiana State University. In 2001, the year of his retirement, he received the I.S.U. Longevity Award and was conferred the rank of University Registrar Emeritus. Since retirement, David has focused on his family as well as cultivating and managing his tree farm.
Honors and Service David Ridenour began volunteering at the Indiana State Federal Credit Union in 1983 and served until 2008 as a member of the Credit Committee, Supervisory Committee and Board of Directors. He was responsible for ensuring that the Credit Union funded the first Presidential Scholarship (full in-state four-year tuition and housing) at Indiana State. In 1999 he was awarded the I.S.U. African-American Cultural Center "Remember His Dream' Award for continued program support. In November 2012 David was the Vigo County Big Tree Champion. David was the 2006 winner of the Sycamore Trails RC&D Forestry award in honor of outstanding forestry management.
Visitation and Funeral Services On Saturday, March 18th Evening Visitation will be held at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd Street in West Terre Haute from 4:00 - 8:00 pm. On Sunday, March 19th Funeral Services will be held at Sugar Creek Baptist Church, 1050 South Thorpe Place in West Terre Haute at 2:00 pm. There will be a visitation period starting at 1:00 pm in the church.
In Memory Donations in David Pierce Ridenour's name may be made to the American Diabetes Association or RC&D Forestry Research.
