David L. Winters

David L. Winters, 84 of West Terre Haute, passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2023, in his residence after a brief illness.  He was born in Terre Haute on November 18, 1938, to David Thomas Winters and Mary Bergman Winters.

David retired from Cinergy Electric (formerly Public Service) and was a carpet installer and hobby farmer.  He was a member of St. Benedict Church, Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, H.A.M. Radio operator, Scoutmaster, wood worker and volunteer fireman for many years.

David is survived by his wife Mary Lou Brooks Winters and three children; David T. Winters (Jacqui), Daniel Winters (Polly), and Debra Winters.  He is also survived by a sister, Kay McGill, and six grandchildren; Hannah Winters, Matthew Winters, Henry Winters, Luther Winters, Alex Brooks, and Andy Brooks, as well as two great grandchildren, Adley Brooks and Mila Brooks.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Elizabeth I. Soyack Winters, step-son Richard Brooks, brother George Winters, and sister, Patricia Fugate.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Benedict Church on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at 12 :05 PM, with Father Bob St. Martin officiating.  Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.  Visitation is scheduled for Monday, May 1, 2023, at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd St., West Terre Haute, IN from 4:00 – 8:00 PM, with a rosary service at 7:00 PM.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Catholic Charities or VNA Hospice of the Wabash Valley, in his memory.
