The utterly unbelievable, wildly remarkable, tremendously accomplished, and irreplaceable life of Donald Wayne Kiger ended peacefully surrounded with family on January 14, 2025. (This date is subsequently the same as his birth and will now forever be known as Don Kiger day. Celebration is of course optional but encouraged.) Humor heals.
Donald W. (Donny) Kiger was born January 14, 1948 in Terre Haute, IN. Son to Loren D. and Juanita Ashmore Pearman Kiger, brother to Patricia, Robert, Ralph, and Janet Weeks who awaited him in heaven. He is survived by his sister, Katherine Stephens.
Don and Susan Marie (Scott) Kiger shared a real life epic romance of fairy tale infamy for 28 years. This miraculous occurrence was admired by their children and spouses, Laura Bonham, Mark Arnold, (wife Angie) Sarah Jane Kiger, Joseph Arnold ( wife Melanie) and Jennifer Madison, (husband Jeremy.) Don was beloved Grandad to David Palmer, Haley Jane Corthum, Kiger Bonham, Ashlyn Arnold, Goldin Patterson II, Dylan Arnold, Jace Lane, Anneliese Patterson, Hoyt Madison and Ruby Madison, as well as great granddad to Lyra, Emrys, Elizabeth, Charli, Brinley, Goldin III, Xavier, Natilee, Malachi, Vanessa, and Elijah. Don was a devoted family man survived by special brother and sister inlaws, nephew Robert Keegan who he loved as his brother, countless nieces and nephews, and lifetime friend, Philip Whilhoite. By all of whom he was greatly respected, revered, and loved beyond measure.
Don was an accomplished professional painter and master of his craft, owning and operating ICR Painting until his retirement. His grandson David continues his legacy. He was a Vietnam veteran who served his country with pride and courage. Don was a lover of all things baseball, a faithful Reds and Cubs fan. This passion he shared not only with his children but the children of many as an accomplished baseball coach. Through this tenure he touched the lives of all of his players and their families, having lasting relationships with most still today. He was an accomplished athlete at Wiley High School. He was so much larger than life and made an indelible imprint on every life he touched. He leaves behind a legacy of Integrity, strength, and Grace that blesses all he shared his life with. He will be forever missed and remembered by all who were fortunate to have known, loved, and been loved by him.
He lived a life that can never be adequately reduced to words.
