Helen Marguerite “Maggie” Stewart, 100 of Terre Haute, passed away at 8:27 AM on Monday, October 8, 2018 in her residence. She was born in Ft. Wayne, IN on November 27, 1917 to Leslie and Pearl Myers.
Maggie is survived by two daughters, Dorothy McKissick and Nedra Russell, as well as 8 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 29 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Ernan Stewart, who was the love of her life, on April 29, 1981. She was also preceded in death by her son, Glenn E. Stewart in 2015, as well as 2 sisters, Chloe Stoner and Dorothy Cottom, and a brother, Glen Myers.
Maggie grew up in the horse and buggy days, and one time the horse got scared and she got thrown onto the ground. The children had to walk 2 miles to school, as there were no school buses back then. At the age of 12, the family moved to Terre Haute as her Dad got a job with the railroad. When she was 20 years of age, she met a guy at the skating rink, she was attracted to his dark curly hair and blue eyes and his sense of humor. It was 2 years later that she married Ernan. Maggie loved to bowl and did so for many years and won several trophies. She finally quit bowling when she was 83. She also loved to read all her life, it was nothing for her to read 9 or 10 books a week the last few years. The biggest thing her family loved about her was the fact she loved her family more than anything in the world and they were always on her mind. When you visited her she would ask if you wanted something to eat even if there wasn’t much in the house at the time. In the later years of her life, she took up bingo and tried to go every week but would get mad if she didn’t win something no matter how small the prize. Maggie was one of the most honest, loving, and good-hearted people ever and the family was proud to call her mother and grandmother.
