Herbert D. Phipps, Jr.

Herbert D. Phipps, Jr., 66 and formerly of West Terre Haute, passed away on Friday, August 18, 2023 in his residence. He was born in West Terre Haute on October 17, 1956 to Herbert D. Phipps, Sr. and Betty R. Rowley Phipps.

Herbert was a former iron worker, but was mostly a self-employed construction worker for most of his life, and formerly owned the Western Star Supper Club.

Herbert is survived by four children; Nichole Phipps, Nina Phipps Carter, Cody Phipps, and Isiah Phipps, as well as his grandchildren; Colton, Brylei, Cassius, Cadence, Colette, Amarah, and Kashton.  He is also survived by his siblings; Bob Couch (Carol), Gary Couch (Deb), Trella Sharp (Frank), Connie Padgett (Elvis), and Debbie Lowe (Phil), as well as several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandson Waylon, and siblings; Larry Rowley, Bill Phipps, Brenda Wycoff, Virginia Ivy, Nancy Couch, and Donnie Couch.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Vigo County Fairgrounds Banquet Center (behind the new Culver’s Restaurant) on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at 4:30 PM.  Cremation will follow at a later date.  Arrangements are under the direction of Fitzpatrick Funeral Home.
