James Benjamin Herrington
Jim Herrington, aged 87, went to be with the Lord, surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute.
He was born on October 19, 1932, to James Russell and Beulah Bell (Kluesner) Herrington. He served in the Army as an engineer during the Korean War and told interesting stories of his time with his fellow soldiers. He grew up an avid sports lover and coached many kids in little league as well as biddy basketball, seeing potential in each child he coached. He became an electrician and was a member of the IBEW Local 725 and retired in 1994 and a member of the Masonic Lodge 687 in West Terre Haute. He was active in local politics as a member of the Town Board of West Terre Haute. His most valued position was serving the Lord as a member of Christ United Methodist Church. He taught Sunday School and was a certified Lay Speaker. His life mission was to live his life according to the Word of God.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Beverly (Poff) Herrington, his children, James C. Herrington, Brian Herrington (Teresa), Douglas Herrington (Kimberly), Phillip Herrington, Stephanie Bartlett (Nathan); grandchildren Lori Weed (Derek), Josh Herrington (Stephanie), Emily Herrington, James Malachi Herrington, Hannah Herrington, Justin Bartlett (Kelsey), Haley Bartlett, Ian Bartlett (Macaira); great grandchildren, Ezra, Juliette, and Calvin Weed; sisters, Thelma Upman (Tom) and Esther Thompson; sisters-in-law Shirley Herrington and Charlene Grafe; brother-in-Law S. Richard Poff; several nieces, nephews, loved cousins, and special friends, Bill and Marty Dunbar and James A Prouse.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Gordon Herrington.
Funeral Services will be held at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd St., West Terre Haute, IN. The visitation will be on Saturday, February 1, 2020 from 10am to 1pm. Funeral following at 1pm, with Pastor Robin Blansett officiating. Burial will follow at Dunlap Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Christ United Methodist Church or the Providence Food Pantry.
