James E. Cannaday, 82 of Dennison, IL, passed away on Friday, June 17, 2022 in his residence. He was born in Terre Haute on April 9, 1940 to James Cannaday and Ruth Swalls Cannaday.
James was roofer and proud member of the United Union of Roofers Local # 150 since September 16, 1968, retiring from his Union shop and was a long-time employee of Lough Brothers. He raised and showed AKC poodles and also raised and showed chickens, and was known for raising and training various breeds of hunting dogs.
James is survived by two sisters, Freda Smith (Plen), and Doris Dunham, sister-in-law Marietta Cannaday, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Rollie Galey and John Cannaday, brother-in-law Charles Dunham, sister-in-law Pauline Galey, and two nephews, Charles Dunham, Jr. and Jack Galey.
The family would like to thank his best friends such as Tim, Willy, “Termite” and “Dozer” for the friendship, care, and support of Jimmy over the course of their years together. Jimmy was a funny, hard-working man who enjoyed Coca Cola, Hershey bars, and sadly, cigarettes. He will be missed by all.
Funeral services will be held at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd St., West Terre Haute, IN on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in Marshall Cemetery in Marshall, IL. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM in the funeral home.
