WEST TERRE HAUTE

James Curtis Herrington August 17, 1957 - January 5, 2025

James, known by most as Curt, age 67, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 5, 2025. He was born on August 17, 1957 to James Benjamin Herrington and Beverly Joan (Poff) Herrington.

His childhood was filled with pop culture, historically-based board games (of which he had a sizable collection), art, sports, music, family, and friends. Despite the fact that Curt never had children of his own, he cherished his nieces and nephews, always giving them gifts and helping many of them form their taste in music and movies and teaching them to end with a flourish. His enjoyment of books, history, traveling to all the places he read about, music, and entertainment was evident when you met him. He will be remembered for his hilariously dry sense of humor, artistic talent, and unique skill for bestowing nicknames on everyone he encountered. Curt worked as a letter carrier for USPS, often sharing intriguing stories about his coworkers and the vibrant characters he encountered along his route. After many years of dedicated service, he retired in 2022. A devoted member of Christ Community Church, he served as treasurer and follower of Christ. Although many will miss him, his family knows they will see him again in Heaven (with his new body) because of his salvation.

He is survived by his brothers, Brian Herrington (Teresa), and Doug Herrington (Kimberly); his sister, Stephanie Bartlett (Nathan); his nieces and nephews, Lori Weed (Derek), Joshua Herrington (Stephanie), Justin Bartlett (Kelsey), Ian Bartlett (Macaira), Haley Bartlett (fiancé Sean), Emily Herrington, James Malachi Herrington, Hannah Herrington; and his great nieces and nephews, Ezra, Juliette, Calvin, and Maren Weed, and James and Evelyn Herrington; his aunts, Esther Thompson, Shirley Herrington, Thelma Upman (Thomas), and Charlene Grafe; his uncle, Richard Poff; many loved cousins and family friends, including James “Andy” Prouse.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Herrington, mother, Beverly Herrington, and brother, Phillip Herrington. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Christ Community Church, 221 South 6th Street, West Terre Haute, IN 47885
