James “Jim” Owen Monaghan Obituary

James “Jim” Owen Monaghan, 76, of Newburgh, IN, and formerly of West Terre Haute passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2024.  He was born in Vigo County on February 10, 1948, to Ralph Patrick and Ruby Mae (Owens) Monaghan.  Jim was a 1966 graduate of Schulte High School in Terre Haute.  He proudly served his country in the US Marine Corps.  He was baptized at the former St. Leonard’s Catholic Church.  

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Brenda Monaghan, whom he married on July 13, 1974 at St. Leonard’s; their children, Jeffrey Monaghan (Lori) and Julie Russell (James); grandchildren, Lillian Monaghan, Colton Monaghan, Archer Russell and Brylee Russell; sisters Patricia O’Leary and Cheryl Davis (Keith); several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog Willie.  He is preceded in death by his parents and canine favorites, Chip and Milo.  

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 16, 2024 at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd St., West Terre Haute, IN from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.;  home-going celebration will begin at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday with Pastor Robert Gregory and Rev. James Russell of Embassy of Christ Intl., Newburgh, IN, officiating.
