James Jim L Perkins

James "Jim" Lewis Perkins, 84, of West Terre Haute, IN passed away Monday February 13, 2017 in his residence. He was born May 7, 1932 in Hamilton, OH to John R. and Ada Godden Perkins. Jim married June R. French Perkins in 1958. She preceded him in death on July 14, 2015. After the death on his mother when Jim was very young, he was placed in the Glenn Home. Two years before graduating from Concannon High School , in 1951, Jim was taken from the Glenn Home by his Uncle Everett and Aunt Lil Perkins with whom he continued to live with until enlisting in the military. Jim served in the U.S. Army from 1952 until his honorable discharge in 1954. After his military service, Jim was employed by Public Service Indiana (Duke Energy) at the Wabash River Station for thirty six years until his retirement. Jim enjoyed camping with his wife and friends, watching old westerns, IU basketball, the Indy Colts and spending time with his family. Jim is survived by his step-children Dennis French (Lynda), Joni Boucher (Ron), and Sally Creason (Geoffrey); grandchildren Pam Vicars, Brad Vicars, Kelly Rader, Tony French, Jenny Cook, Dawn Bright, John Boucher, Eric Boucher, Amee Boucher, and Clayton Creason; several great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his wife June; step-daughter Barbara Vicars; grandsons Bill Vicars and Corey Creason, sister Billie Joan Wild and brothers Robert Perkins and Johnny Perkins Bell. Jim was a loving and caring person who treated and referred to his step-children as his own. The family would like to express our appreciation and heartfelt thank you to Jerry Pearson, a family friend, for the kindness, care and generosity he had shown both Jim and June. Friends are invited to join the family at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N. 3rd St., West Terre Haute on Sunday, February 19, 2017 to share in the Celebration Of Jim's Life from 2:00 p.m. until services at 4:00 p.m. with Rev. Steve Moore officiating and military rites by the Vigo County Veterans Honor Guard. At his request, cremation is scheduled. Interment will be at a later date in New Providence Presbyterian Cemetery in Elbridge, IL.
