Janice L. (Mefford) Harris

Janice L. Harris, 68 of West Terre Haute, passed away at 11:25 AM on Friday, June 14, 2019 at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.  She was born in Terre Haute on May 2, 1951 to Buck Mefford and Mary Jones Harshman Mefford.

Janice was a member of North Terre Haute First Baptist Church.  She was a 1969 graduate of Garfield High School, and worked as a kitchen assistant for over 25 years at West Vigo Middle School and High School.  She was a member of VFW Post # 972 Ladies Auxiliary, and was a former member of the West Terre Haute Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary where she served as Treasurer.  She enjoyed playing Bingo, fishing, and cooking for her family.

Janice is survived by her husband Charles Harris, whom she married July 30, 1969.  She is also survived by their four children; Tod E. Harris (Amanda), Kelly S. Roberts (Brian), Troy M. Harris, and Michael P. Harris.  Also surviving are ten grandchildren; Ciera, Trevor, Ryan, Thomas, Dylan, Danielle, Emily, Madison, Jacob, and Chloe, as well as one great grandchild, Jaxx.  She also leaves behind her sisters, Jeanette Lewin (Athol), Dorothy Chrisman (Jim), Myrna Hilton (Gene), and Sherry Morley (Carl), as well as a special cousin, Linda Willy, and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers David Duke and Michael Mefford, a sister, Jennifer Boor and her husband Stanley Boor, and a brother-in-law, Harold Lee Harris.

Funeral services will be held at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd St., West Terre Haute, IN on Thursday, June 20, 2019 at 1:00 PM, with Pastor Paul Carey officiating.  Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.  Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, June 19, 2019 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
