Jeffery Delmar Heyen

ALEXANDER CITY, Ala. - Jeffery Delmar Heyen (Higgins), 66, of West Terre Haute, IN, passed away peacefully in his sleep the morning of August 5, 2022 in his daughter's home in Alexander City, AL. He was born August 29, 1955 in Terre Haute, IN, to Gladys (Bedford) and Delmar Heyen. He grew up in West Terre Haute where he lived until he was 64 then moved to Alabama to live with his daughter. He was known for his sense of humor and as an avid gardener.
He worked for Indiana Gas Company, then Labor Union Local 204, from which he retired. He was a member of the Young Men's Club and American Legion Post 501.
Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys and Delmar Heyen; and brother and best friend, Michael Heyen. He leaves behind his sisters, Sheila Harper (Terry) and Mary Roberts (Dennis); his daughters, Jodi Smoot (Anthony), Denise Heyen (Jeremy) and Casey Heyen (Carlis); 10 grandkids, Terrell, Jazzlyn, Brayden, Gabrielle, Jason, Tyreke, Telaina, Teniya, Blake and Caneisha; and 3 great-grandkids, Travon, Tailyn, Leahni and one on the way; as well as 4 nieces, Lisa, Heather, Heidi, and Autumn; his only nephew, Travis; and many family and friends.
Following his wishes, there will be no services, with cremation in Alabama. There will be a scattering in the ocean, as Jeff requested, with a celebration of life at a later date.
