Jerry Robert Poppe, Sr.

Jerry Robert Poppe, Sr., 75 of West Terre Haute, passed away on Saturday, September 10, 2022 in The Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care.  He was born in West Terre Haute on March 30, 1947 to Leroy Albert Poppe and Pearl Smith Poppe.

Jerry was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served in Vietnam and worked at Gartland Foundry for 25 years.  He was a 22 year member of the West Terre Haute First Assembly of God Church where he loved participating in church skits and drove the church van for many years.  He loved everyone he talked to and loved telling people about his years in the military.

Jerry is survived by his wife Jackie Schoffstall Poppe, whom he married April 18, 1970.  He is also survived by his daughter Heather Eikenberry (Chad), and a brother, Herman Poppe (Marsha)as well as several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Jerry Robert Poppe, Jr., his brothers; Frederick Poppe, James Poppe, David Poppe, Carl Poppe, Jesse Poppe, and Albert “Hiram” Poppe, as well as his sisters; Virginia Lewis, Wanda Rogers, Ada Rogers, Linda Keefer, Lena Poppe, and Ruth Buchanan.

Funeral services will be held at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd St., West Terre Haute, IN on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at 1:00 PM, with Pastor Randy Smith officiating.  Burial will follow in New Vermillion Cemetery.  Visitation is scheduled for Thursday from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM in the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to help with expenses.
