Jo Ann (Wolfe) Ridenour

Jo Ann Wolfe Ridenour 1940 - 2022

Jo Ann Wolfe Ridenour, daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher and friend, passed away on New Year’s Day 2022. She was 81 years old. Jo Ann was born to Russell Wolfe and Ruth Clary Wolfe in November 1940 in Indianapolis.

Jo Ann was married for 54 years to the love of her life, David Pierce Ridenour, who preceded her in death in 2017.

Jo Ann is survived by her sister, Mona Locey, and her brother, Steve Wolfe; as well as her son David Eugene Ridenour (wife Autumn, children Travis and Shiloh), daughter Lisa Ridenour (children Giselle  [1996-2020] and Jean, and grandchild Ara), daughter Sara Ridenour (husband Robert Lawrence, children Ian, Pierce and Jude), daughter Valerie Ridenour Deitrich (husband Kirk Deitrich, children Ben, Jake and Zach), son John Ridenour (wife Bridget, children Mia and Claire).

Jo Ann grew up in Indianapolis and graduated from Ben Davis High School in 1959. She attended Indiana State College and earned a Bachelor of Science in 1963 and a Master of Science from Indiana State University in 1968. She was a member and treasurer of Gamma Phi Beta sorority at ISU.

Jo Ann taught at numerous schools in Indiana. However, most of her career was dedicated to West Vigo Middle School, where she taught for over two decades. She was a Vigo Country “Excellence in Education” Honoree in 1995. After retirement, Jo Ann taught piano lessons for several years. She was an active member of Sugar Creek Baptist Church in West Terre Haute, where she played the piano at Sunday services, taught Sunday School, served on many committees and was a volunteer tutor for Kids Hope.

Visitation and Funeral Services

On Friday January 7th, Evening Visitation will be held at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd Street in West Terre Haute from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. On Saturday January 8th, Funeral Services will be held at Sugar Creek Baptist Church, 1050 S. Thorpe Road West Terre Haute at 11:00 am. There will be a visitation period starting at 10:00 am at the church.
