Joan D. (Pigg) Childers

Joan D. Childers, 86 of Madison Heights, VA and formerly of Imperial Beach, CA and Terre Haute, passed away on Friday, December 28, 2018 in her residence.  She was born in Terre Haute on February 7, 1932 to Denman Pigg and Ann Vice Pigg.

Joan was preceded in death by her first husband, Arliss C. Bryan, Sr., and by her second husband, Charles Childers.  She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy Snipes, a brother, Larry Pigg, and a sister-in-law, Janet Jenkins.

Joan is survived by her son, Arliss C. Bryan, Jr. (Jo Ann), and daughter, Debbie Broadus, Dianna Arns, Beverly Cummings, Joyce Childers, and Tommy Childers.  In addition, she is survived by her brothers and sisters; Robert Pigg (Doris), Betty Edmunson Jack Pigg (Myrna), Denny Pigg (Kathy), Nancy Holton, and Trina Huey, as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

Joan was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles # 3142 in Chula Vista, CA, she loved to travel and camp, and was a member of the Thousand Trails Camp Sites.  She had served as a past PTA President, was a Girl Scout Leader and Brownie Troop Leader, as well as being in the President’s Club for Avon Sales, and was also associated with Vanda Sales and House of Loyd Sales.  Prior to that, she had worked in her children’s school cafeteria.

Funeral services will be held at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd St., West Terre Haute, IN on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at 1:00 PM, with Pastor Bob Roush officiating.  Burial will follow in Bethesda Memorial Park.  Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM in the funeral home.
