John Michael Monninger, Jr.

John Michael Monninger, Jr., 52 of Terre Haute, passed away on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 in his residence.  He was born in Terre Haute on November 12, 1968 to John Michael Monninger, Sr. and Patricia Joan Tryon Monninger.

Mike was a veteran of both the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy and was a mechanic for Taghleef Industries and prior to that was a journeyman for Boilermakers Local # 374.  His memberships include VFW Post # 972, Krietenstein American Legion Post # 104, and the A.P.A. Pool League.  He was a loving father and grandfather and a friend to everyone.  He always had a smile on his face and never met a stranger.

Mike is survived by three children; Amber Monninger (Cody Matlock), Ryan Monninger (Maria), and Corey Monninger (Lakin), as well as the love of his life, Julie Weger.  Also surviving are his step-children, Jami Archer and Brandi Archer, grandchildren Holdyn Matlock, Henry Matlock  (who is on the way), Gracie Monninger, Jason Joy, and Deni Rollins, his sister, Amy Powers (Jon), step-brother, Daryl Hughes and step-sister Kelly Hughes (Kevin).  He also leaves behind nieces and nephews; Cody Powers (Ali), Chelsea Powers (A.J.), Christy Moore (Kyle), and great nieces and nephews; Ryder Powers, Jordan Dixon, Ava Dixon, and Olivia Moore, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as his dog Koda.  He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has been chosen with a Celebration of Life Service to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Terre Haute Humane Society, in his memory.  Arrangements are under the direction of Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd St., West Terre Haute, IN.
