Linda Ann Hooper, 76, of West Terre Haute passed away on Sunday, December 8th, 2024, from complications of diabetes. She was born on June 26, 1948, to Plen G. Smith and Freda Cannaday Smith. She married Tim Hooper on December 19, 1969. They had two children. Her daughter Cindy is a veterinarian who lives in Aurora, IL with her husband Ahmed El Amri and their daughter Zahra. Her son Scott is an electrician with IBEW 725 who lives in Terre Haute with his wife Patricia (Cox). Besides Cindy, Scott and Zahra, she is survived by her mother, Freda, her brother Plen and his wife Deborah, her sister Pati Smith, and brothers and sisters in law: Sharon Newcomb, Majorie and Jim Bays, Martha and Ronald Lowe, Jonnie Hooper, Judy and Lyle Lepper, Benjamin and Beverly Hooper, Bonnie Hooper, Debbie and Steven Moore. There are also more nieces and nephews than she was ever able to count.
Linda was an accomplished artist. Many people knew her for her sewing talents- fitting and creating apparel for over 20 years in her home on Miller Ave before taking her talents to Herm Rassel’s establishment in Terre Haute. Linda was a master of sewing, crocheting, drawing and painting. She played several musical instruments including the organ, piano, dulcimer, and banjo with ease.
In her youth, Linda and Tim were members of the Jaycees. Once her kids arrived, Linda was an active school mom, always going on field trips and making sure the sports teams had snacks. She and Tim enjoyed travel, and we think some of the best times of her life were their annual trips with extended Smith family to Lake Bull Shoals in Arkansas, where she enjoyed collecting folk art by Junior Cobb and fishing.
Linda always made sure that her house was a safe place for any child- she would lend an ear to listen or provide a warm meal to anyone who came by. She also was a devoted pet owner. We expect her pets greeted her enthusiastically when she came to collect them at the rainbow bridge. For the last two years, Linda’s very favorite thing was her granddaughter, Zahra. They enjoyed many of the same things, most especially ice cream and music.
We hope that Linda has found peace and serenity.
