Margie Canada Hamilton, 91, of New Goshen, died at Union Hospital on September 25, 2021. Margie was born on May 17, 1930 in Jasonville to Chester and Grace Miller Canada. She was raised in New Goshen and graduated from Fayette High School in 1948. That same year, she married her childhood sweetheart, Bob Hamilton. After Bob’s stint in the Army during the Korean War, they settled into farm life. They were the quintessential farm couple – hardworking, disciplined and partners in the business. They were married for 67 years when Bob died in 2016.
Margie’s final years were spent primarily in her beloved home. A steady stream of family and friends visited her there. Tending her yard was a particular joy, and perfection was the goal. Driving a John Deere mower was her favorite mode of transportation. Margie’s last day included things she loved— an afternoon of euchre with her brother and niece which was interrupted only by snacking and friends dropping by. She had a broad smile and a twinkle in her eye when she was declared the undisputed winner of the day.
Margie is survived by her brother, Bob Canada, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, mother and father in-law, sister, Betty Hedding and sister-in-law, Betty Canada. A graveside memorial, that will provide family and friends an opportunity to say good-bye, will be held at Roselawn Cemetery at 1pm on October 30. Arrangements are under the direction of Fitzpatrick Funeral Home.
