Mary Martha (Parrish) Flowers

February 13, 1934 — November 5, 2021

West Terre Haute

Mary Martha Parrish Flowers, 87 of West Terre Haute, passed away on Friday, November 5, 2021 in Clinton Gardens.  She was born in Paris, IL on February 13, 1934 to Willard Parrish and Dorothy Morris Parrish.

Mary was a member of First Christian Church in Clinton, IN, as well as Order of Eastern Star and the Red Hat Society.  She loved to watch the St. Louis Cardinals and the Indianapolis Colts, and to her, Peyton Manning was the greatest football player ever, don’t ever tell her otherwise, it wasn’t pretty if you did.  She loved scratch-off tickets and BINGO.  She enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles (her son Gary would have a tendency to hide the last piece from her), and word finds.  She worked at CBS in the press room and was an aide at St. Mary-of-the-Woods.

Mary was the best cook and watched her mom cook from the time she was very young.  She will be remembered for all the dishes of macaroni and cheese she made for carry-ins, and her old-fashioned oyster dressing at Thanksgiving.  Back in the day Mary and Oscar always had a campfire on the weekends and family would gather at some point.  She worked hard all of her life and so many times life wasn’t easy but she always kept at it.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Sandy Clawson (Ron), and her son, Gary Flowers (Carolyn), as well as her sister, Sue Hooker and brother, Bud Parrish (Linda), as well as several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.  Also she leaves behind Sandy Curry who fixed her hair for 28 years and always made her look special.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Oscar Flowers, son Charles Flowers, and Stan Crist who brought great joy and happiness to her.

Private graveside services will be held at Pleasantview Cemetery, with Pastor Bob Roush officiating, with burial to immediately follow.  In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Providence Food Pantry, 707 National Ave., West Terre Haute, IN 47885. A special request for Jimmy Taylor of Paris, IL, as you read this please sing Amazing Grace for Mary, she will be listening and loved hearing your voice.  To all who knew Mary over the years, she was a “great lady”.
We love you Mom.  Arrangements are under the direction of Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd St., West Terre Haute, IN.
