Melvina (Evitts) Chesshir

Melvina Evitts Chesshir, 85 of Brazil, IN, passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2022 in The Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care.  She was born in Owensboro, KY on June 12, 1937 to Charles E. Evitts and Susan Smith Evitts.

Melvina loved the Lord, she loved life in general, and enjoyed fishing, playing BINGO, and working jigsaw puzzles.

Melvina is survived by her husband of 66 years, Delbert Chesshir, and three children; Kelly Chesshir (wife LaDonna Singleton), Catherine Tarwater, and Mariah Chesshir.  She is also survived by her sister, Mary O’Neal, as well as 10 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, several great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Earnest W. Chesshir, 5 brothers, and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd St., West Terre Haute, IN on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at 1:00 PM, with her nephew, Pastor Johnny O’Neal officiating.  Burial will follow in Bethesda Memorial Park. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM in the funeral home.
