Rev. Andrew Jackson Merritt, Jr.

Reverend Andrew Jackson Merritt, Jr., 75 of Terre Haute passed away on the Sabbath, Saturday, April 28, 2018 in his home surrounded by his family.

He was born February 8, 1943 in Terre Haute to Andrew Jackson Merritt, Sr. and Charlotte Jane Brownfield Merritt.

Andrew was a member of the Pentecostal House of Prayer since 1964, where he served as minister for 50 years and helped build the church with his father. He was a member of the Carpenters Union Local # 133. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He adored his grandkids.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Marilyn Smith Merritt; his daughter, Tonjua Merritt; his daughter-in-law, Rhonda Merritt; his brother, Larry Merritt; and his stepson-in-law, Joe McKee.

Andy is survived by his wife, Jan Clark Merritt; his sister, Sharon Braun (Ron); his children, Tamara Fagg (Bob), Becky Sanders (Mark), Kevin Merritt and Rachel Merritt; his stepchildren, Elizabeth McKee, David Fuchs and Jay Bates (Heather);. He is also survived by his 14 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, one step great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Pentecostal House of Prayer, 1526 Harding Avenue, Terre Haute. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 1, 2018 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the church. There will be a church service at 7:00 p.m.  with a wake to follow. Revered Robert Cook will be officiating; burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd Street, West Terre Haute, Indiana was entrusted with care and arrangements.
