Richard Eugene Stilwell, faithful husband and father of three of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday March 27, 2022 at the age of 94. He was born January 16, 1928 to Daniel Webster Stilwell and Ruth Iola Neal Stilwell. He was preceded in death by his parents and his two sisters, Frieda Murphy and Donna Stultz. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Rosa Lee Boyll Stilwell of Terre Haute. He is also survived by two sons, Dennis Ray Stilwell and wife, Judy, who live in Springfield, Missouri, Richard Lee Stilwell and wife, Janine, who reside in St. Petersburg, Florida, and his daughter, Susan Lynn Strole and husband, Fred Holler, who live in Spencer, Indiana, his sister, Catherine Bailey, of Terre Haute, seven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. Richard was a life-long resident of Terre Haute. He joined the United States Marine Corps at the age of 18, completing basic training at Parris Island, South Carolina and served in various positions in and around Washington, D.C. He came back to Terre Haute to work and eventually met and married the love of his life, Rosa Lee Boyll on June 11, 1950 at Oregon Baptist Church. Richard’s lifelong work was in accounting and bookkeeping for different businesses and later, working for himself doing bookkeeping and taxes for various companies and organizations. He was a faithful member of Oregon Baptist Church where he and his wife sang in the choir as well as in duets and quartets. He also led the congregation in hymns during services. After relocating to the north side of Terre Haute, they began worshiping at Sugar Creek Baptist Church in West Terre Haute. Those who knew Richard the best knew him as a man of faith. He had a heart for reminiscing and telling stories of the past, bringing to light a laugh that was infectious to those present. Richard is at peace, but he will forever be missed by those that loved him. Funeral services will be held at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd St., West Terre Haute, IN on Friday, April 1, 2022 at 1:30 PM, with Dr. Tom Savage officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Lawn Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Friday from 12:30 – 1:30 PM in the funeral home.
