Riley Vernon Wineinger, 81, of West Terre Haute, passed away at 1:15 AM on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 in Putnam County Hospital in Greencastle, IN. He was born in Terre Haute, IN on September 25, 1938 to Peter Wineinger and Jennie Davidson Wineinger.
Riley attended Concannon High School. He then served in the United States Air Force from January, 1956 through December, 1959. While attending Concannon High School, Riley met the love of his life, Virginia Bozack Wineinger. He and Virginia were married on November 26, 1960. Riley adored spending time with his family. For many years, he and Virginia enjoyed going on vacations with their motorcycle “gang” and were fortunate enough to visit many places. Riley cherished his time traveling and playing bluegrass music at various festivals each summer with his grandson, Easton Robertson. Riley was a supervisor at J.I. Case in Terre Haute, IN for 21 years. He then was the plant superintendent at Blaw-Knox, Inc. in Mattoon, IL for many years. Riley never met a stranger, and everyone who knew him loved him. We know Riley will continually watch over his family, as he always has.
Riley is survived by one daughter, Pam (Steve Norris); two sons, Bill (Susie) Wineinger, and Steve Wineinger, all of West Terre Haute. He was blessed with two grandchildren; Erica Robertson (Dane Norton) and Easton (Jena) Robertson; one step-granddaughter, Angela Woodward. Riley left behind seven great-grandchildren; Riley, Reagan, and Lane Wiggins, Charleigh Stranahan, Waylon, Tucker, and Hank Robertson. Also, five step great-grandchildren; Alicyn Dowdy (Kollin), Austin Woodward, Paige Woodward, Gabriel Norton, and Gavin Norton. One step-great-great-granddaughter; Blake Dowdy, one sister and brother-in-law; Norma (Sis) and Norman Frey of Bradenton, FL. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Riley was preceded in death by his wife Virginia, on March 20, 2020; his parents, and two brothers; Raymond Wineinger and Carl Wineinger.
Mass of Christian burial will be Monday, June 29, 2020 at 12 Noon at St. Mary’s Village Church with Father Darvin Winters officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery immediately following mass. Visitation will be on Monday from 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd St., West Terre Haute. If anyone so desires, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Assocation. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the family and St, Mary's Village Church requests that only immediate family members and close friends attend the funeral mass.
