Robert Eugene Burns

Robert Eugene Burns, 87 of Terre Haute, passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 in Majestic Care of Terre Haute.  He was born in Staunton, IN on October 28, 1936 to Russell Burns and Tressa Kirchner Burns.

Robert was a retired school teacher with the Vigo County School Corporation and also was a successful basketball and cross country coach, having won many championships in both sports.  He enjoyed playing golf and was a pilot and enjoyed flying his own plane.  He was a former member of West Terre Haute Masonic Lodge # 687 F & AM, as well as the Scottish Rite and Zorah Shrine.  After retiring from teaching, he and his wife Carmen spent their winters in Florida for nearly 20 years.

Robert is survived by his two daughters, Kim Kraner (Charles) and Penni Decker (James), as well as three grandchildren, Megan Hancock (Parker), Klayton Corzine (Noelle), and Kirstin Clark.  He is also survived by three great grandchildren, Landon Hancock, Mason Hancock, and Reagan Hancock, as well as several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife Carmen Sue Davis Burns who passed away on September 2, 2023, as well as his siblings, Charles, Marion, and Lula.

Funeral services will be held at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3^rd St., West Terre Haute, IN on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at 1:00 PM.  Visitation is scheduled for Saturday from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM in the funeral home.  In keeping with his wishes, cremation will follow services.
