Robert Lee Hale, 84 of Terre Haute, passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 in Union Hospital. He was born in West Terre Haute on May 6, 1939 to Arthur B. Hale and Mary Irene Edington Hale.
Robert entered the U.S. Air Force during his first marriage, and joined the U.S. Navy during his second marriage and eventually retired from the Navy, and later retired from I.B.E.W. Local # 725 where he served as an electrician. He was a pilot and flight instructor out of Sky King Airport. He literally devoted his life to Miss Softball America after his retirement and served as an umpire, groundskeeper, and maintenance man while there. He was a “Stubby Sanders Award” recipient as well as receiving a Make a Difference award and had a diamond named in his honor, and also umpired softball at the high school level.
Robert is survived by two daughters, Brenee Betts and Laura Hale, two granddaughters, Amanda Hale Livingston (Carl) and Anna Astley, as well as two great grandchildren, Dean Livingston and Kasey Livingston. He is also survived by a brother, Dale Hale. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Bill Hale.
Visitation will be held at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd St., West Terre Haute, IN on Saturday, February 10, 2024 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM, with military graveside services to immediately follow at Highland Lawn Cemetery.
