Robert D. Shores, 86, of West Terre Haute, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, following a brief illness. Bob was born in Hammond, IN to Raymond and Lucille (Bridgewater) Shores and raised by his maternal grandparents, Mayme Black and Charles Bridgewater (otherwise known as Mom and Pop). He graduated from Concannon High School in 1957 and soon after joined the Army, where he served as a military police officer in Heidelberg, Germany. Among his fondest memories, was standing as an honor guard for Queen Elizabeth of England, and other dignitaries. After returning home from the Army in 1961, Bob married Elizabeth French Jeffers, with whom he shared 35 years of marriage before her passing in 2007. Together, they built a life of cherished memories with daughter Angela. Later in life, Bob reconnected with his high school sweetheart, Nancy (Lloyd Stout), and they were blessed with 9 wonderful years of marriage before his passing. He was a devoted father to Angela Shores Kreider and supporting grandpa to Nancy's many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Bob worked at Home Packing and Central Nitrogen before joining Dennis Trucking as a Teamster and combination man. He retired after 25 years of dedicated service. Bobbie Dean was known for his quick wit, humor, and unwavering loyalty as a friend. A regular at several local establishments, most recently Coffee Cup One & Two, The Grill, and Bob Evans. Bob made friends wherever he went; he formed many lifelong friendships over countless cups of coffee, and lively conversations. Bob cherished his weekly outings with his dear friend Billie Jo Williams, as well as Saturday morning breakfasts with his brothers, Larry "Torch" Bryan and Charlie Correll. He also enjoyed light-hearted banter with his cousin, Bill Bryan, and the wait-staff at various favorite spots. He loved staying active through walking and biking and was proud to participate in events like St. Mary's Mary G. Komen Breast Cancer 5Ks and 10Ks, the Indianapolis Mini Marathon, and his personal challenge of biking 1,000 miles each summer. Bob and Nancy found great joy in attending the West Terre Haute Christian Church, where they were inspired by the sermons of Pastor Chris Wilbur and the warmth and friendship of the congregation. Bob is survived by his wife, Nancy Lloyd Stout Shores, his daughter, Angela (Brian) of Fishers IN, and siblings, Larry D Bryan (Norma), Judy Wampler and daughter Theresa Rogers, and Charles Correll (Mary and granddaughters Mazie and Marlie), and sister-in-law Gail Bryan (Billy Gene). He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, wife Betty, brothers, Billy Gene Bryan, Donnie Shores and sister Joyce Shores. A memorial service, including military rites and Masonic services, will be held at Fitzpatrick’s Funeral home, in West Terre Haute, 220 N. 3rd Street at 1:00pm on Saturday, September 21 with friends/family gathering from 12:00-1:00pm. His ashes will be buried later date in Pisgah Cemetery (4301 N Sunflower Pl). Following the service, a celebration of life will take place at Snacks in West Terre Haute, around 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Robert’s memory to VA/VFW, Hospice, or to the organizations he cherished, St. Jude’s, or Smile Train.
