Roma Ruth Wardle, 87, passed away Sunday, September 26, 2021 in her home in West Terre Haute, IN. She had many months of loving care assisted by the caregivers of Helpful Hearts and Heart to Heart Hospice and her family.
Roma was the only child of Ruth and Clifford Hopkins, born on October 26, 1933. Ruth raised her daughter in West Terre Haute after Clifford died in 1936 and several years later married Orville Montgomery. Ruth and “DaddyOr” raised Roma on a small farm near Sandford, IN. She was married to Roland Herbert Wardle on July 11, 1953.
A graduate of Fayette High School and Indiana State University, Roma raised her family and worshiped at Bethany United Church of Christ. In addition to teaching and raising her children and grandchildren, she worked alongside her husband as a local business owner, founding and operating the West Terre Haute Dairy Castle for many years. She later enjoyed retirement, tending her extensive flower gardens, weekly dinners with family and friends, and traveling across the country with Herb and their friends.
Survivors include her husband, daughter Denise Wardle Funk, her children- Dustin Funk and Danielle Bedwell (Levi), daughter Cheri Lee Woolley (Bob), their children-Chambra Woolley Davis (Jordan), Cogan Woolley, and Cody Woolley, and 6 great grandchildren: Brian Chesshir, Ava Davis, Conner Woolley, Cash Woolley, Cameron Nunez, and Manny Nunez. She is also survived by Herb’s brothers and sister: Claude Wardle, Jr., Ralph Wardle (Marilyn), and Mary Gilbert and their children and grandchildren.
A visitation will be at 5:00pm at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd St., West Terre Haute, IN on Thursday September 30, 2021 until services at 7:00PM that same evening with Rev. Steve Moore and Pastor Adin Rodgers officiating. Private burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery in Terre Haute, IN on Friday, October 1, 2021.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to Bethany United Church of Christ, West Terre Haute, IN.
