Royce S. “Hoby” Gilman, 72 of West Terre Haute, passed away at 11:27 AM on Friday, December 14, 2018 at Union Hospital, after a battle with cancer. He was born in Clinton, IN on June 12, 1946 to Dale Gilman and Gladys Catterlin Gilman.
Survivors include one daughter, Lisa Cooper and her husband Doug, and two grandchildren, Chance Cooper and Hope Cooper. Also surviving is his sister, Naomi “Pudge” Lee and her two sons Charles “Nick” Lee and Danny “Dan” Lee. Royce also leaves behind nephews Josh Lee, Ryan Lee and his wife Meredith, as well as great nieces and nephews Josie, Jaxton, Zac, and Eliza Lee. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law Ronald “Ronnie” Lee and Ronnie’s son, William “Bill” Lee.
Royce was a 1964 graduate of West Vigo High School and proudly served in the Air National Guard during the 1960’s. He was a retired member of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local # 157.
Royce will be remembered for his kind nature and willingness to help anyone in need. His courage and strength were amazing. His passion was watching his grandchildren Chance and Hope, grow up and attend their numerous activities they were involved with. Before his illness, he spent much of his time on the golf course. He had 5 holes-in-one on Geneva Hills hole # 2. His 2 little dogs Bogey and Paco were by his side daily.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation has been chosen with a Celebration of Life service to be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Fitzpatrick Funeral Home.
