Thomas R. Johnson, Sr.

With a heavy heart we come to you with news that our good friend Tom “TJ” Johnson has received his last dispatch.  He passed away on September 4, 2019.  He probably made his appointment time that morning at the Pearly Gates.  In true Tommy fashion, he did it his way, hammer down.  He was born in Terre Haute on April 9, 1947 to John Johnson and Dorothy Carmen Johnson.

Tom was a member of the Young Men’s Club of West Terre Haute and enjoyed all types of cars, but old cars especially appealed to him.

Tom is survived by three sons; Thomas R. Johnson, Jr., Norman Johnson, and Mark Johnson, as well as six step-children; Mike Pitts, Kenny Pitts, Steve Pitts, D.J. Pitts, Tammy Pitts, and Theresa Pitts.  Also surviving are three brothers; John Johnson (Linda), Walt Johnson, and Jay Johnson (Brenda), a sister, Emily Slater, grandson, Dustin McCombs, and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his brothers Butch Johnson and Russell Johnson, a sister, Mary Rentauskas, and brother-in-law Tony Rentauskas.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has been chosen and no services are scheduled at this time.  Arrangements are under the direction of Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd St., West Terre Haute, IN.
