Violet Rose (Montgomery) Elkins

Violet Rose Elkins, 79, of West Terre Haute, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2022 in her home.

She was born March 21, 1943 in Terre Haute to Lloyd L. Montgomery and Opha Chesshir Montgomery.

Rose worked as a Home Health Care Provider. She was a member of The Journey Church and was a Teen Sunday School Teacher for many years. She loved to cross stitch, play BINGO and enjoyed putting puzzles together, and most of all, the undisputed Wii Champion of the Family.

Rose was preceded in death by her parents; and her five sisters and two brothers.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Elkins, Sr., whom she married March 24, 1963; her daughter, Penny W. Counterman (Eric); her son, Robert L. Elkins, Jr. (Lori); brother, Rick Montgomery (Patricia); and her best friend, who was more like a sister, Donna Jones. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Anthony Elkins (Shawnee), Erica Fisher (Malcolm), Sara Wood (Frank), Jessica Jones (Donny), Devon Elkins, and Alicia Elkins, fifteen great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are surrogate sons, Troy Harden, Jim Clark, Rick Fugate and Tony Cordova; as well as, close friends, Gloria Hall and Bobby Thomas.

Celebration of Life Services will be held Friday, April 8, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd Street, West Terre Haute,  Indiana; with visitation for friends and family from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
