William “Bill” Russell Lindsay, Sr., age 65 of Palestine, Illinois, passed away on Friday, June 12, 2020 at 2:09 PM at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital, in Lawrenceville, IL. He was born in Terre Haute, IN on June 26, 1954 to Oscar A. Lindsay, Sr. and Mary R. May Lindsay.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Janet Mershon Lindsay, as well as daughters Amy (Tom) Bourne, Shannon (Kevan) Lindsay, son William “Billy” Russell Lindsay, Jr., and his three grandsons; Preston R. Bourne, Walker L. Bourne, and Cole J. Lindsay. He is also survived by his brother Sam (Dennice) Lindsay, mother-in-law, Sandra “Sue” Walker, sisters-in-law Debbie Lindsay, Eva (Brad) White, Kitty Cottom, and brother-in-law Claudie J. “Bub” (Dawn) Mershon, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Bill proudly served in the United States Marine Corps for 20 years, and retired at the rank of GYSGT. Bill was the Leaverton Park Caretaker in Palestine, IL. He enjoyed camping and fishing with his grandsons, watching football and NASCAR and geocaching with his brother-in-law Brad White (for hours at a time!). He also enjoyed listening to his Gospel music.
In death, as in life, he will forever watch over his family. SEMPER FIDELIS
Funeral services for Bill will be held at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd St., West Terre Haute, IN on Friday, June 19, 2020 at 1:00 PM (EST), with Pastor Dennis Leek officiating. Burial will follow at New Vermillion Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, from 12 Noon – 1:00 PM at the funeral home.
